Full steam ahead

Thu 25th Sep 2008 by Ben Palmer.

… mornings, evenings out with nice food and wine, cajole people into helping run stalls at the Christmas fair/sports day and goodness knows what else. I'm sure I'll find out.

Anyway, I was just chatting to two new Mum's - new as in new to the school - at our first coffee morning of the term about being the only dad around the table and about what the Jessica's Trust banner in my email …

What rubbish

Fri 15th Feb 2008 by Ben Palmer.

… venture into the study I shared with Jessica.

Over the last few years it has been filled with christmas decorations, unused furniture and pictures, boxes filled with Jessica's clothes and anything else that didn't have somewhere to go. Wish upon a star

Sun 6th Jan 2008 by Ben Palmer.

Amongst other Christmas goodies, I gave Harry and Emily a very special present. It wasn't immediately the most exciting, nor the biggest, but it has had a big effect, and one which I hope will last them for the rest of their lives.

Christmas can be so fraught with problems and worries.

The children went shopping today, and I was brightly told that they'd bought me a Christmas present together.

"Do we have any wrapping paper, Daddy?" Harry asked at bedtime.

"Yes, snuggle down now and sleep tight - you can wrap it up …

A clean sweep

… and printing certificates from the CBeebies website, and we have coloured in countless Father Christmases and other line drawings together.

Emily has had her hair brushed and arranged countless times, her hair bands, ties, scrunchies and slides fitted, removed, rearranged and refitted, and both of them have demanded apple, raisins and juice all day. Lunch was a breeze, and Emily managed …

No dancing

Thu 2nd Aug 2007 by Ben Palmer.

… along to, but Emily refused most of my suggestions - going instead for the Lazytown CD that Father Christmas gave her.

Playing up to her gleeful bouncing, I started to sing and dance along with the theme tune. "Daddy, don't dance," she frowned at me.

Oh hell. I dance like a Dad.

Happy Anniversary

Tue 24th Jul 2007 by Ben Palmer.

… for this year; it is my wedding anniversary and there are no more painful days. At least not until Christmas.

I have been busy all day, working, but this has also caused me to reflect very strongly on a markedly different July 24th, eight years ago, when the sun shone strongly enough to make it an almost unbearably hot day.

I'm happy. Happy that Jessica and I had that day together, the six …
